ARTPRACTICE / SOCIALWORK

I was born in Rome twenty seven years ago, the second daughter of a young couple that lived in the outskirts of the city. My mother, too young to stop dreaming, continued exercising the art of sewing, handed down by the magic hands of her mother creating unique models for her dolls: her daughters Francesca and Arianna. My young father renounced his studies and supported us by working in the old family butchery where he gladly and lovingly invested his efforts towards the construction of a family.

I therefore grew up between maternal dreams made of colored fabrics and the crude reality of the constant odor of meat coming from the hands of my father, restless worker from the early hours of dawn. Since the butchery was located in the center of Historic Rome, I became in contact with its life from an early age. Its streets still maintain the names of the ancient artisans, and the old women still exchange in the early morning their recipes while shopping, before cooking their sauces which simmer till lunchtime.

I attended a High School of Classical Studies÷ "Virgilio", within the center, known for its strong political and cultural views. I studied Latin and Greek- the roots of language- and I submerged myself in litterature, dreaming of mythological worlds where reality was explained by ancient symbols, where man enclosed the truth in Pandora's Box and resurected Love from Death.

I researched in the libraries of the intellectual Bourgeoisie of Rome [from which most of my classmates came from] as well as in the little bookstores hidden between the narrow streets of the center and the most famous Market of Rome- Porta Portese, where the wanderer finds the most diverse realities, from the ancient book to the stolen cellphone.

At the same time, the Piano Studio gave me the key to percieve what is beyond spoken and written knowledge, interpreting and explaining Human Nature through a world paralell to the language, where the alphabet gave way to a more ancient and emotionally-direct structure: Sound.

I finished High School as the best student in my class, because my nature led me to satisfy my thirst of knowledge. I attended the conservatory of music "Mariotti" of Perugia, where I studied the piano under the guidance of a professor from France. With him I dedicated myself profoundly to the interpretation of piano literature of his homeplace Paris, the most lively musical center in the years of the birth of the piano.

I also took entrance exams in Solfeggio, harmony and history of music, under the guidance of professor Guido Zaccagnini, the curator of the program of the main classical radio station in Rome. Thanks to his friendship, I deepened the existing relationship between the history of music and that of the church, noticing how art history and the history of music experienced parallel processes, conditioned and regulated by the divine laws of clerical powers.

In the meantime I lead an investigation of life and traditions of minor centers started involuntarily by my father from infancy due to frequent trips to his hometown. In Rome I grew, realizing that it is difficult to find value in a state of being when relating to a metropolis. In my father's hometown I discovered the strength and the magic of the popular working culture, divided by the seasons

In the same way I documented photographically the atmospheric phenomenon of the flat land of the "casteluccio di norcia", where in June arrives the flowering magic of the colors, before the harvest of the lentils.

Equally I followed with my camera the life of a family of farmers--the parents of a good friend who live in a uncontaminated and unknown Basilicata. I tried to tell through my lenses how little objects present in everyday life of the country contained the magic of reality, where animals, sun, air, sky and fields simply explained the word 'existence'.

The same impulse drove my documentation in Sicily, the place I have visited the most amount of times. The wilderness, the earth, the purity, and the idea of infinity caused by the presence of the sea whose waves move themselves with the souls of the inhabitants, replenishing with life children and adults.

And then Rome. My Rome. Narrated by reflected images and my reflections.

The young culture of aggregation, the ancient and sacred essence reflected in a puddle at six in the morning, the stone, air of the city where eternal travelling piegeons draw in flight the secret charm that makes Rome unique.

I casually arrived in the United States, in the skin of a babysitter for an American family I worked for in Rome. They decided to return the their hometown, but wanted their daughter to continue to live in an Italian lifestyle÷speaking the language and learning the ways of the culture through my presence in the house.
This was my first approach to the city of Boston, the world of children and their crude language of the body. Meanwhile in my free time I tried to discover the mood and colors of a new place. Destiny brought me to meet two noble souls: A multifaceted painter who lives in his colors, and a serious soul who blows a world made of glass. We created a connection of sentiments that brought us together to Paris and Barcelona where we recounted a sureal reality always choosing the color of our paths and finding along the way a prince from another planet÷Nico, who took us by the hand into the heart of his paintings.

In Boston again , I met an angel, a rare woman who pushed me with the tips of her wings along my path. My thoughts acquired strength: to refine my art, to continue to capture with my eyes and tell the World ÎFra' ( in Italian Îbetween'), consisting of the thin line where the lovers live, beyond time, place or language. To live rather than to be lived.
